Working on high-quality projects, experiences, services, and products designed to create or be beautiful in themselves and making a difference not only for the people who consume them but also for those who create them brings out my energy and passion. 

However, in many organizations, especially in the travel business, people who help create these experiences work for low wages and sometimes lack opportunities to grow. 

When I had the privilege to manage serviced apartments in Kathmandu, we wanted to do that differently. We wanted everyone who desired to have a growth path to become the CEO, from a housekeeper to a marketing executive, and could start their own business initiative within the organization. We also thought it was essential that every voice in the organisation was heard, so that we didn’t miss any opportunities and everyone felt valued. Our vision was based on Holocracy and the ideas of Ricardo Semler. Transferring autonomy to places where real money is made, rooms are kept clean, and guests are served, informed, and welcomed. And providing teams with training to become better in what they do, increasing our service levels and their opportunities to grow.

We had big dreams that were partly scattered because of the big earthquakes that ratted Nepal in 2015, and it was the only way for us to try to survive and keep our jobs. 

Behind the freedom to be autonomous was a structured framework with a well defined set of operational guidelines.
